THE WILL OF CONSUELO, DUCHESS OF MANCHESTER





Will and Codicil of Consuelo, Dowagcr Duchess of 73 Manchester
second daughter (as hereinafter defined) of my said sou in certain events hereinafter in paragraph 10 of this my Will mentioned as shall he living at my death or shall be born within twenty-one years thereafter as tenants in common and if there shall be no such children or child other than as aforesaid the same shall be held by my general trustees upon the same trusts as are hereinbefore declared concerning the jewels and other articles specified in the first schedule hereto. ^
10. I give and bequeath the following further specific legacies To the said Lady Mary Alice Montagu eldest daughter of my said son the box marked "Mary" deposited with Messrs. Coutts & Co. Strand W. C. Bankers wdth its contents and also in the events of and upon the said Lady Mary Alice Montagu attaining the age of eighteen years or marrying my necklace of fifty-three oriental pearls. To the eldest daughter for the time being of my said son living at the date of my death (other than the said Lady Mary Alice Montagu) hereinafter re- 75 ferred to as "the second daughter of my said son" the box marked "Alice" deposited with Messrs. Coutts & Co. with its contents To Alexander George Francis Drogo Viscount Mandeville son of my said son in the event of and upon his marriage my sapphire necklace but if he shall predecease me then I give the said sapphire necklace to the eldest son for the time being of my said son Rut I hereby declare that if the said Lady Mary Alice Montagu shall die in my lifetime then I give and bequeath the said box marked "Mary" with its contents to the second daughter of my said son and in the event of and upon the second daughter of my said son

attaining the age of eighteen years or marrying the said pearl necklace also to the second daughter of my said son provided always and I hereby declare that if in the events which happen the second daughter of my said son shall take a vested interest in the said box marked "Mary" and the contents thereof then and in such case the second daughter of my said son shall not take any share ofthe said __ jewels and other articles the subject of the bequest contained in paragraph 9 hereof and I further declare that if the said Lady Mary Alice Montagu shall die in my lifetime and there shall be no such second daughter ofmy said son living at the date of my death then I give and bequeath the said two boxes and their contents and the said pearl necklace to my General Trustees upon trust to divide the same in manner hereinbefore directed with reference to the articles specified in the said Second Schedule hereto And if there shall be no son of my said son living at my decease my said sapphire necklace shall likewise devolve as if it were included among the articles specified in the said Second Schedule provided always that if any of them the said Lady Mary Alice Montagu the second daughter of my said son or my said grandson shall survive me then until such one of my said two grand-daughters as may be prospectively entitled to the said pearl necklace shall marry or attain the age of eighteen years and until the eldest son for the time being of my said son shall marry the said Helena Duchess of Manchester shall have the use enjoyment and custody of the said pearl necklace and the said sapphire necklace respectively but upon such terms and conditions as I have hereinbefore prescribed in reference thereto.
